The former Foreign Minister of Mexico, Jorge Castañeda, considers that the low citizen participation in the popular consultation on August 1 is a political failure for President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
According to estimates by the National Electoral Institute, approximately 7% of the electorate went to a polling place to cast their vote, while the rest did not participate in the exercise.
