In the early hours of Valentine’s Day last year, an urban taxi collided with a medium-sized goods vehicle at the junction of Yuen Wo Road and Fo Tan Road. The taxi driver and the female passenger on the taxi died after being sent to the hospital. Three other people were injured, including one male passenger. He was also hit by fractures of the vertebral body, ribs and lumbar spine.
The truck driver involved denied the crime of dangerous driving.
The case opened in the District Court today (2nd). The prosecution expert government chemist Zeng Zhuonan pointed out that if the defendant was driving under the 50 kilometers per hour speed limit at the location, the truck should be able to stop immediately before the collision. The prosecution believed that the defendant was on that day. Blow the yellow light and drive at 82 kilometers per hour.
The defendant Huang Junxian (33 years old) was charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing serious bodily injury to others. He alleged that he was driving a car at the junction of Fo Tan Road and Yuan Wo Road in Shatin on February 14, 2020. The medium-sized truck caused the death of taxi driver Jin Junting and female passenger Liang Mingwen, and also caused serious bodily injury to male passenger Chen Yingjie.
Truck driver suspected of rushing to the yellow light before the incident
The opening statement stated that the taxi involved in the case drove along Yuanhe Road at about 3 a.m. that day and collided with another medium-sized truck traveling on Yuanfo Tan Road at the junction.
Two seconds before the accident, the traffic light controlling the truck turned yellow, but the truck still crossed the stop line, then entered the intersection and started to drive slightly to the left. Eventually, the front of the truck hit the left side of the car.
Taxi driver and female passenger died in hospital, male passenger was injured and approved for nearly one year of sick leave
The taxi driver Jin Junting was pronounced dead three minutes after arriving at Guanghua Hospital. The cause of death was "multiple injuries."
The female passenger Liang Mingwen was conscious when she was sent to the hospital, but lost response two hours later and was pronounced dead at 7 o'clock that night. The cause of death was blood accumulation in the abdomen, spleen and liver lacerations.
The male passenger Chen Yingjie, who was seriously injured, had fractures in his vertebral body, ribs, and lumbar vertebrae. He was discharged from hospital 12 after the incident and was approved by a doctor for nearly one year of sick leave.
