Max Bertl really wanted to share an anecdote when the citizens' meeting was actually over.

And everyone stayed seated.

Bertl has something to tell, everyone knows that.

"But that's nothing for the newspaper," he said quickly, with a smile.

Well, there is still enough to report.

Wildsteig

- Bertl is after all Wildsteig's new honorary citizen.

And thus the only one alive.

Thomas Finkenstädt was most recently awarded the title in 2014 and Adolf Steigenberger in 2008.

The local council had unanimously decided that Max Bertl will be the next to be awarded the honorary citizen dignity.

Josef Taffertshofer was able to honor the 75-year-old in front of around 30 people in the community hall.

"It is a great pleasure for me," said the town hall chief.

Bertl is "a very special and outstanding personality for our community".

Some people in the district probably know that the Wildsteiger is someone who has taken a lot in hand.

Taffertshofer too.

When writing down the positions and tasks, he was also surprised by what the 75-year-old had already achieved.

The theater player was Bertl. And wedding loaders. "I heard you have a good success rate," said Taffertshofer, hardly a marriage was divorced afterwards. At the 900th anniversary of Wildsteig 2010, Bertl acted as the festival leader - so Taffertshofer was exactly the right person for this post. “You are creative, you have brave ideas and you can lead a bunch of disciplines,” said the town hall chief and gave examples: “We had our own playing cards. Who comes up with such an idea? Der Max. Who comes up with the idea of brewing their own festival beer? And who can convince a brewery of this? The Max stop! ”That is Max Bertl, who also initiated exhibitions and coinage. He sat on the local council for 24 years (1978 to 2002). And was part of the parish council from 1978 to 1984.

And which has also made a name for itself beyond the borders of Wildsteig.

As a member of the district council, for example.

As an honorary judge at the labor court.

As an entrepreneur who created jobs with his carpentry and trained 30 apprentices.

Above all, however, Bertl became known in Bavaria as a full-blooded Trachtler.

In the traditional costume association Alpengruss Wildsteig he was involved in the committee from 1972 to 2000, about ten years as second chairman, another five as first chairman.

He was also the head of the Gau for a time as second (1982 to 1987) and first (1987 to 2008) chairman; Bertl is now Ehrengau's board member.

In the steering committee, he also pushed ahead with the renovation of the traditional costume culture center in Holzhausen near Landshut.

Bertl has always been courageous and passionate, said Taffertshofer.

The fact that he often came across open doors was mainly due to his nature.

"Your person speaks to people, you have achieved a lot for Wildsteig and our Bavarian homeland." Bertl once even had an audience with Pope Benedict XVI.

And met the then American President Barack Obama.

"He will still remember you," Wildsteig's mayor is certain.

“You are exciting, but not intrusive.

Just a special citizen. "

And a funny guy on top of that, revealed Taffertshofer.

"Wherever you party, there is Max. And where you are, there is something going on."
