The Special Envoy of the Russian President to Afghanistan, Director of the Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov confirmed that there is no reason to believe that Iran may be involved in the attack on the Mercer Street oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman.
"We do not have the slightest reason to believe that Iran was involved in the attack, and we have no facts, and no facts have been presented so far," Kabulov said in a statement to the Russian Sputnik news agency.
The oil tanker operated by the Israeli Zodiac Maritime was attacked in the Gulf of Oman, killing two of its crew, a British and a Romanian, according to the company that owned it.
Western countries were quick to accuse Iran of being behind the attack, vowing to respond, while Tehran denied Western accusations and affirmed its readiness to respond immediately and decisively to any aggression against it.
