Last week there was a lot of money for the Schongau ice skating department.

And about setting the course for the future.

In the end, with the assumption of costs, the city made a clear commitment to the importance of this sport for Schongau.

When it comes to the ice arena, however, there has been no further advancement.

Schongau

- Because it became clear that the limited number of visitors to the Jakob-Pfeiffer-Haus in Schongau due to Corona would probably not be enough, Mayor Falk Sluyterman addressed the EA Schongau even before the city council meeting: "There is pressure in the boiler we come true, ”said the mayor.

They would like the grant application to go through.

"Your presence is not absolutely necessary."

The long wait until the item on the agenda was finally called up after two hours was worth it - as far as the subsidies are concerned.

The city council decided unanimously to take over the operating cost deficit of 43,000 euros.

For one vote (Martin Schwarz, SPD), the EAS minus of 89,000 euros against the main club is offset.

TSV application is based on a different state of affairs

"TSV Schongau has reached the limit of its capabilities with the financial support of the stadium operations," said TSV Chairman Ralf Konstantin in his application in May. In addition, Konstantin had applied at the time that the city should take over the costs for the design planning of the stadium roof for around 15,000 euros as well as the design planning for the new construction of the changing room and technology building for around 90,000 euros. In many conversations, Konstantin had informed the city and the individual parliamentary groups in advance about the current state of affairs (we reported in detail).

These decisions were not made as specific as the ice hockey fans wanted, and city architect Sebastian Dietrich also explained why.

The TSV application is based on another state of affairs.

At that time it was assumed that one could receive - significantly lower - funding from the State Sports Association (BLSV).

As reported, the city slipped into the “Investment Pact for the Promotion of Sports Facilities” (IPS) by chance: When another municipality withdrew, Schongau reacted spontaneously and actually received the commitment for the released funding amount of 960,000 euros .

Focus on funding and planning security

It has apparently still not been clarified whether the previous preparatory work is sufficient and which requirements must be met.

"We have to check this in order not to risk losing the funding and to create planning security for the TSV," said Dietrich.

Michael Eberle (CSU) recalled that, thanks to the many volunteers in Schongau, you can travel very cheaply and thanked you again for your commitment.

"There is an investment backlog - the 960,000 euros are a godsend, we have to tap it." He submitted the application to clarify by the September meeting whether the previous plans are sufficient to submit the new funding application.

"If we drop the volunteers, we are at completely different sums," feared the CSU city council.

Turn the ice arena into a multifunctional hall

Mona Maucher (UWV) also stood up for EA Schongau with emphatic words: “We have to do everything to maintain the ice rink with a sensible, future-oriented concept.” But Dietrich did not want to be tied to a time frame. It is about noise protection as well as energetic renovation - "it is a complex topic".

Gregor Schuppe (ALS) also thanked the volunteers, but criticized the current planning. “We cannot seriously plan for the future with a half-open stadium roof and make ice in September at 25 degrees.” In addition, the ice arena must be used more, even in summer. “A multifunctional hall - that's what Schongau needs,” says Schuppe. Also, he could not agree to this voluntary service until a renovation of the middle school had been tackled. Ultimately, it is not a godsend, as Eberle put it, “but the German taxpayer's money”.

The demand that the administration should report on the current state of affairs in the September meeting was rejected with 10:12 votes.

The next decision was made with only two dissenting votes: As soon as the IPS funding is approved, it will be passed on to the TSV - including the municipal contribution of ten percent to cover the planning costs.

"A clear signal from the city to the TSV", as Dietrich commented.

An on-site meeting with representatives of urban development funding at the ice rink took place two days after the meeting.

EA Schongau: "Volunteering needs a perspective"

“We have to be able to plan for the long term.” The spokesman for EA Schongau, Gerhard Siegl, put it very clearly before the latest city council meeting.

Dozens of members of the ice skating department, not only from the board of directors, but also from the youth, had come to the Jakob-Pfeiffer-Haus.

They didn't just want to know how the city council decides on the proposed deficit compensation for operating costs and the assumption of the liabilities that have accumulated towards TSV Schongau.

"Turn off the light in the stadium and lock it"

The members also wanted to demonstrate that they are more than dissatisfied with the situation. The news came two months ago: There is a generous renovation grant for the ailing ice rink. "A mayor who receives one million euros runs through the whole city and is happy," said Siegl. But there was no such reaction. "In Schongau it's more like a 'woe, now we have money and have to do something' - that's a bit weak." His appeal: "Volunteering needs a perspective." TSV chairman Ralf Konstantin had recently at the annual meeting repeatedly, if the city does not commit itself financially, they want to "turn off the lights in the stadium and lock them".
