Scottish Health Minister Humza Yousaf has publicly complained about alleged racial or religious discrimination. A kindergarten in a suburb of Dundee had rejected his two-year-old daughter and other Muslim children - allegedly because there were no more free places. Shortly thereafter, other families with "white, Scottish names" received an acceptance.
In an interview with Channel 4, Yousaf now expressed incomprehension.
He believed that it was a matter of discrimination.
"I do not know whether this is based on ethnicity or on the suspected religion of my daughter," said Yousaf in an interview excerpt published on Twitter, which the Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon shared.
"Give us an explanation, we don't want more," demanded the 36-year-old, who was born in Glasgow and whose parents come from Pakistan and Kenya.
He also called for clarification as to why Muslim families were not even offered forms for possible subsequent admission.
The kindergarten has so far not given any reason.
The kindergarten denied the allegations, according to Channel 4.
One is "proud to be open and inclusive for all" and rejects claims to the contrary.
