Sparkasse Hohenfurch: branch gone, self-service pavilion is coming

This is not good news for customers of the Sparkasse Oberland in Hohenfurch: The branch on the main square will close on February 1st next year.

But at least the self-service operation should be guaranteed.

- "I've been afraid of this for a long time, now it has come true," said Hohenfurch's mayor Guntram Vogelsgesang, regretting the decision of the Sparkasse Oberland in the latest municipal council meeting.

But he and the local council showed understanding for the arguments that board member Michael Lautenbacher and his colleague Richard Arnold presented to the committee.

"You can believe me that we did not make this decision lightly," asserted Arnold, who himself lives in Hohenfurch.

But the numbers speak against an economically sensible continued operation of the branch.

"In the meantime, 65 percent of our customers use online banking, which increased by another ten percent during the Corona period," said the head of asset and private customer advisory, explaining the low level of public traffic.

Since upgrading the branch on the main square in Hohenfurch was also unprofitable, it was decided to ask the municipality whether they could rent a small area somewhere in order to set up at least a so-called self-service pavilion there.

"So that at least cash is available on site and you can print out your bank statements," explained Lauterbach.

The municipality owns the space for the self-service pavilion

And the Hohenfurch municipal council has already found a spot on which the self-service station could be: right at the entrance to the Rewe supermarket on the B17, easily visible from the main road.

And this area already belongs to the municipality.

That is why Lautenbacher said: "A nod on your part would be enough for us to give our planner the task of developing it." And the nod followed.

Now it is up to the Sparkasse to work out a lease agreement and a finished construction plan, and to negotiate with the supermarket operators so that they can provide a parking space for self-service customers.

"All Hohenfurcher Sparkasse customers will soon receive a letter stating, among other things, how the respective contact person can be reached in the future," promised Arnold.
