The long-awaited bridge over the Ammer near Oderding has been achieved: In front of around 250 onlookers on Saturday morning, the preassembled footbridge and cycle path was lifted into its foundations next to the state road bridge with a 750-tonne heavy-duty crane.

Oderding

- building bridges is always a historical event - especially if you wait as long as the municipality of Polling for a pedestrian and cyclist safe crossing at the previous bottleneck at the state road Ammerbrücke near Oderding.

Around 250 onlookers did not miss the "beautiful event" (Mayor Martin Pape).

District Administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß, Member of Parliament Alexander Dobrindt and Member of Parliament Harald Kühn also followed the building of bridges live on site.

The construction site and the crane area were cordoned off and monitored by a security service.

Just setting it up the day before was a spectacle.

The "Baukran Logistik GmbH" (BKL) from Forstinning moved with seven heavy-duty semitrailers and their own construction crane on the closed state road to make the 750-tonne payload crane operational and equip it with the necessary equipment.

170 tonnes of counterweights alone were delivered.

A “trial lift” should take place on Friday evening.

But it was canceled because of the approaching storm.

Nervousness before building a bridge over the Ammer

But on Saturday, shortly after 9 a.m., things got serious. "If it doesn't work out, the whole world laughs at us," joked BKL division manager Johann Würz before the lifting action. Christina Will was also nervous. Her husband Robert's family business in Uffingen had assembled the 46-meter-long, 60-ton wooden truss bridge over the past eight weeks. The last laser measurements were quickly made in the dark. "It should all fit, but I'm already tense," admitted Christina Will.

Christoph Prause was also “excited”: “We really rarely build a wooden bridge - and certainly not in this length,” said the department head at the State Building Authority.

Extensive planning and scheduling work was necessary in advance to build the bridge or to carry out the lifting action, which cost 25,000 euros.

"Getting a crane of this size alone is difficult," reported Prause.

Complex static calculations were carried out, and it also had to be determined how the crane, which has a dead weight of 300 tons completely assembled, distributes the pressure into the ground.

At least part of the crane stood on the abutments of the state road bridge.

After 13 minutes the new bridge near Oderding was in place

At 9.31 a.m. the spectacle finally started. The crane carefully lifted the timber frame construction and then turned it on the hook over the state road bridge in the direction of the foundations. At 9.44, it was done: the footbridge and cycle path lay in the abutments - and Robert Will was the first to cross the bridge on foot. For the wife it was a “highlight” in the history of carpentry: “That was my husband's dream. He's always wanted to build a wooden bridge, ”said Christina Will proudly.

There was also relief among the representatives of the State Building Authority. "That's exactly how we imagined it," said Prause. The look of the bridge was really successful and a "sign for the region:" We can be really very satisfied with the result. "Mayor Martin Pape was also enthusiastic:" The bridge looks great. "And how did Johann Würz react to the successful one Bridging? Routine. “The bridge is really very beautiful. But that's our day-to-day business. We are now dismantling the crane and then driving on. "

The next assignment for the BKL team is already on the agenda on Monday, August 2nd: A large construction crane has to be erected on the Theresienwiese.

It will take a few days before the € 1.1 million footbridge and cycle path can be used by the public.

Technical additions still have to be carried out and the last metal sheets have to be installed.

The official inauguration ceremony with the church blessing is planned for September 13th.
