Shifts for the coronavirus vaccination have already begun to be granted among those residents of the City who are
over 12 years old and have comorbidities
.
This was reported by the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health that hopes to begin with the inoculation in the early hours of Tuesday.
Therefore, starting this Tuesday between the City and the Nation,
more than 100,000 people will be vaccinated.
This age group
began to register last Thursday.
According to official data,
10,000 people
have already signed up
in the City alone
. They must present a
medical certificate
proving their condition. As with the rest of the population, they will be given shifts in the vaccinations that have doses available; In other words, there will be no specific venues for this group of adolescents.
According to estimates in the Undersecretariat of Primary, Ambulatory and Community Care, there
are between 20 thousand and 30 boys and girls
who have some type of comorbidity. Not all are contemplated in this vaccination stage. On the other hand, as they explained from Health, it is known "that many are waiting for the certificates. It depends a lot on the comorbidities they have. We understand that the medical professionals who treat them make a very detailed evaluation. Not all cases are the same and some go through very complex previous diseases ".
As determined by the Ministry of Health of the Nation, adolescents with diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, kidney and chronic respiratory diseases will be prioritized;
people living with HIV;
cancer patients;
Down's Syndrome;
adolescents with autoimmune diseases;
with severe congenital malformations;
among other ailments that are published on the official website of the City.
The country will use for the first time the vaccines from the Moderna laboratory, which has Messenger RNA technology.
What happens in the province of Buenos Aires?
In these hours, as confirmed to
Clarín
from the Health area,
117,460 adolescents with comorbidities have already been registered.
For them, 100,000 shifts have already been delivered, as of Tuesday.
In addition, almost
560 thousand boys and girls between 12 and 17 years old without comorbidities
were enrolled
.
As happened in previous stages, the provincial system allows the registration of this entire population.
The
Moderna
vaccines
that were donated by the United States will be given
among the adolescents
.
It's about
3.5 million doses
.
Moderna also requires two doses to complete the immunization, 28 days apart;
both are formulated with the same component.
As the national government duly clarified, these vaccines did not require registration by the regulatory authority (granted by ANMAT, National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology), because it is a donation;
of course, if you received the entry and use permit.
In the future, when the laboratory finally delivers the doses acquired by the country -20 million during the first quarter of 2022-, then the registration will be necessary, although it is a bureaucratic instance, since the use has already been approved by the FDA (United States) and EMA (Europe).
Unlike the three coronavirus vaccines that have been applied in the country so far - Sinopharm, AstraZeneca and Sputnik V - Moderna's introduces "messenger RNA" technology.
How does this vaccine work? According to official information from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), these vaccines are novel because of the way they generate immunization against the coronavirus: "To awaken the immune response, the system of many vaccines consists of injecting the attenuated or inactivated germ. This is not the case with messenger RNA vaccines. Instead, these vaccines teach cells to
produce a protein
, or even a portion of a protein, that it triggers an immune response within our body ”, they explained from the body, which depends on the Department of Health and Human Services.
"The immune response, which produces the
antibodies,
is what protects us from infections if the real virus enters our bodies," they synthesized from the CDC.
As
Clarín
learned
, the national government intends to advance with vaccination first among adolescents with prevalences - there would be about
940,000 throughout the country
- and then continue to use the available doses of Moderna in adolescents without previous illnesses.
During Monday, a new meeting of the Federal Health Committee -CoFeSa, which brings together all the country's health ministers, was held, where different strategies were discussed to advance in the application of the first doses;
but also, to set objectives in order to complete the schemes, with the second doses.
It is expected that in the course of August, the 900,000 adolescents with prevalences in the country may be immunized.
