The date for the next US presidential election is already set: On November 5, 2024, a candidate is to be elected to the White House for the 60th time - or possibly a candidate for the first time.
It is unclear whether ex-President Donald Trump will run again.
The 75-year-old probably has the money to get involved in politics until then.
As the broadcaster CNN and the website Politico report, Trump's political organizations already have almost 102 million US dollars (almost 86 million euros).
As the broadcaster reports with reference to Trump's team, 3.2 million individual donations were received by Trump's organizations in the first six months of this year alone.
The ex-president has several political lobby groups that loyally support him:
"Save America", founded shortly after the lost 2020 election. Organizations like these are subject to a donation cap of $ 5,000, but Trump can use the money for many purposes: for example to support other political candidates - or to consult with people, travel or to pay for events.
However, direct funding of a presidential campaign is not permitted.
"Make America Great Again," originally intended for the Joe Biden election campaign.
A fundraising organization that forwards the collected money to the other two organizations.
According to CNN, "Save America" in particular is swimming in money: The organization currently has around $ 90 million at its disposal.
According to the broadcaster, the enormous sums show that Trump still enjoys great support and a high willingness to pay among his supporters.
The money could already play a role in the major midterm elections in 2022 to support Republican candidates.
Then the representatives in the US House of Representatives will be elected, the current narrow majority of the Democrats could tip over.
Dozens of senatorial posts are also available.
Not enough for a presidential campaign
Should Trump actually decide to run for president again, he will probably need a lot more money.
The campaign budgets for the US presidential election have increased massively in recent years.
The duel between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, including the campaigns of the Democratic and Republican congressional candidates, spent a total of $ 14 billion, according to media reports.
The sum was more than twice as high as in the previous duel between Hillary Clinton and Trump.
