Prominent US Senator Lindsey Graham tested positive for the corona virus despite being vaccinated.
The Republican wrote on Monday on Twitter.
He got flu-like symptoms on Saturday evening and went to the doctor on Monday morning.
He will now be in quarantine for ten days.
Graham stressed that his symptoms were mild.
"I am very happy that I was vaccinated, because without it I would certainly not feel as good as I do now."
Graham had gained notoriety and political weight during Donald Trump's tenure - as a close confidante of the then President.
Only at the end of Trump's time in the White House did Graham distance himself from his party colleagues.
Vaccine skepticism is particularly widespread among Republican supporters in the United States.
In view of the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant, high-ranking Republican politicians and conservative commentators had recently increasingly campaigned for a vaccination against the corona virus.
