The acquisition of air purification devices for schools and kindergartens divides the Attenkirchen municipal council.

In the most recent meeting, the decision was postponed - they want to wait for the results of the investigation by a specialist office.

Attenkirchen

- With an unequivocal yes and no, the Attenkirchen municipal council took a position on the question of whether to buy air purification devices for the elementary school and day care center. Because the decision, which has been amended and reformulated several times, as it was finally adopted by a majority on Monday, provides that a decision will only be made when a specialist office has checked all rooms and alternatives.

16 rooms in the primary school and six rooms in the day care center are to be equipped with air purification devices. One would have to reckon with 66,640 euros for the devices in the school and 25,000 euros for the devices in the day care center, explained Mayor Mathias Kern. He also gave the line: Because there was at least the risk that schools and daycare centers would have to be closed without such air purification devices, and such devices would definitely have a positive effect, he would “approve of the purchase with a grudge”. The parents' councils had also spoken out in favor of a purchase, the staff in the daycare center was rather skeptical, the teachers can live with and without an air purifier, Kern reported.

While the head of the town hall was hired for each purchase, it was different with Maximilian Lobmeier (WIR): That was “a lot of maybe for a lot of money”.

You don't know whether the devices are preventing the facilities from being closed, you don't know what else Prime Minister Markus Söder might think of, you don't know how the incidence is developing, but you know that you have to keep ventilating one way or another.

Walter Schlott (GoL): "Fear is a bad advisor"

And Walter Schlott (GoL) was also very skeptical: If you buy "these things" because you are afraid of otherwise having to close school, all he can say is: "Fear is always a bad advisor." And who guarantees, that some teachers do not turn on the devices at all? And then it is so that in children who are in a practically sterile room for so long, the immune system is weakened.

Schlott suggested that the cheaper variant of a modular system should then be considered.

Anton Westermeier (BG) was of the same opinion: Ventilation brings more, there is no guarantee that the schools will stay open, even if you have air purification devices in the classrooms.

Josef Fischer (UWG) thought that the modular system was a good thing, but pleaded for the decision to be postponed: “We'll know more in a few months.” You won't get such devices until the start of the school year anyway.

But then even more so, warned Lobmeier.

Veronika Wiesheu (WIR): "I'm at a loss"

Veronika Wiesheu (WIR) also had “stomach grief” when she made the decision, but in her function as the representative for the children's home, school and family “I cannot refuse”. And: “I'm at a loss.” And with that Wiesheu found himself in good company with the councilors.

The amended proposed resolution, with which the local council could live, came from Kern: They wanted to wait for the results of the investigation of a specialist office that they would have commissioned before buying and installing the devices before making a decision.

This specialist office should also examine variants.

Schlott's motion that a maximum of 6,000 euros should be set for this investigation was rejected with 3: 8 votes, and the resolution presented by Kern was then accepted with 8: 3 votes.

The same applies to the daycare center, where the result of the vote was 7: 4 in favor of Kern's proposal.

Now you will either decide on September 20, when the next municipal council meeting is scheduled, or you will convene a special meeting, said Kern.

Because: "It's urgent."
