5.1-magnitude earthquake strikes northeastern Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit northeastern Japan today.

The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation reported that the quake struck 112 kilometers from the Hasaki area, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Japan is located in the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, an area where earthquakes and volcanoes are active.
