Lebanese President, General Michel Aoun, reiterated the necessity of revealing the facts in order to achieve justice in the Beirut port explosion and to arrest those involved.
In a speech on the eve of the first anniversary of the Beirut port explosion last year, Aoun called on the judiciary to go to the end of the investigation and trials until the facts are clarified and justice is achieved. A legal or political pretext, not to provide the investigation with all the information needed to help it reach its goal.”
Aoun indicated that the challenge facing the judicial investigator and the judiciary later is to reveal the truth, conduct the trial and issue a fair judgment in an acceptable period of time, stressing the commitment to the constitution and respect for the separation of powers and the questioning of those whom the judicial investigator considers useful for the investigation to take its course away from pressures from any party.
The Lebanese president pledged that the blood that was shed on the day of the fateful explosion would not be in vain, and that the truth and fair retribution would be revealed from all those responsible for the disaster.
An explosion rocked the port of Beirut on the 4th of August last year, 2020, leaving tens of martyrs and thousands injured, in addition to huge material damage.
On the other hand, Aoun affirmed his endeavor and the Prime Minister-designate to overcome all obstacles in the way of forming a rescue government capable, with the expertise, competencies and integrity of its members, to implement the required and well-known reform program, stressing the need for the Lebanese to adhere to their unity and open a new page that restores Lebanon to the map of innovation, growth and competition and restores hope to its youth their homeland and the desire to stay in it and return it to the homeland of civilization, joy and creativity.
