A police officer was stabbed to death on Tuesday at a public transportation stop in front of the Pentagon.
The alleged perpetrator of the attack died dejected, according to the authorities.
The military building was temporarily closed for a few hours as a precaution against the incident.

The incident occurred on a subway bus platform that is part of the Pentagon Transit Center, according to the Pentagon's Force Protection Agency.
The facility is within walking distance of the military headquarters, in Arlington County, Virginia, just across the Potomac River.
An Associated Press reporter near the building heard multiple shots, then a pause, and then at least one more shot.
Another reporter from the news agency heard the police shouting "gunman".

The Pentagon announced that the facilities had been closed due to "police activity."
The Pentagon's Force Protection Agency, responsible for security at the building, tweeted shortly before noon that the scene of the incident was already safe.
The closure was lifted except in the area surrounding the crime scene.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley were at the White House meeting with President Joe Biden at the time of the shooting.

In 2010, two agents from the Pentagon's Force Protection Agency were injured when a gunman approached them at a security checkpoint. The officers, who survived, returned fire, fatally wounding the gunman.
