Is tethering good for animals?
Manfred Katscha addresses a very important topic in his letter to the editor (tethering with grazing).
Especially here in Upper Bavaria there is still often the beautiful sight of cattle on the pasture.
Grazing animals are less common in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate;
but very large stables, as I have noticed in the last two weeks.
Fortunately, many small family farms still let their cattle out.
But the sow seldom.
I know a farm south of Munich from occasionally buying milk and eggs.
There, the 20 or so cows are let out to pasture every morning from spring to late autumn.
The dairy cows come back to the old barn to be milked in the evening.
They trot voluntarily to their parking spaces where they are tied up.
And out again the next morning.
