However, Weyarn's town hall chief Leonhard Wöhr has not yet been able to give his citizens who were affected by the severe storm on July 26th any hope of financial aid.

Since the dimension of the damage would not have exceeded the threshold for declaring a disaster, it is not possible to apply for state funds via this route, explains Wöhr when asked by our newspaper.

But now there is an even faster and more direct way: The Free State is providing emergency aid.

CSU constituency member and state parliament president Ilse Aigner had campaigned for Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU).

Those affected can apply for immediate aid immediately

Because of the massive storms in several Bavarian districts, including Miesbach, the "area backdrop for flood emergency aid" will be added in July, Füracker announced. To “alleviate the first emergency”, for example, up to 5,000 euros would be paid out to affected households for the replacement of destroyed household items, and up to 10,000 euros for oil damage to buildings. Anyone who got into an existential emergency as a result of the floods can receive up to 100 percent reimbursement through grants from the so-called hardship fund, according to Füracker. Insurance benefits would be offset against the aid, and a discount of 50 percent applies to those who are not insured. The Ministry of Finance is also promising tax benefits such as deferrals, extensions or special depreciation for private individuals and companies.

As early as Wednesday, August 4th, those affected can apply for emergency aid.

The contact person is the district office.

There they are still waiting for more detailed information from the ministry, said spokeswoman Sophie Stadler when our newspaper asked.

But “even without the finance minister”, the fire and disaster control team has already provided many of those affected with forms, links, etc. unbureaucratically “on the short official channels” in the past few days.

As soon as information about the new emergency aid is available, it will be passed on to the public immediately and, in particular, via the municipalities to the citizens.

Communities see a great need for support

In Weyarn, in any case, state support is urgently needed, Wöhr knows.

Many of the victims of the flash floods were not insured against floods because their homes were never threatened by it.

“That is a completely different dimension,” stresses Wöhr.

And also in Irschenberg, community worker Michael Fellner is convinced that a number of citizens will take advantage of the emergency aid.

The exact storm balance has not yet been conclusively determined.

explains Fellner: "We are still waiting until all the fire brigade reports are available."
