Charging stations at hotels are in greater demand than ever in the Miesbach district.

The increase in the number of registrations measured by the Federal Motor Transport Authority is clearly reflected.

District - As much fun driving is, charging can be annoying: Electric cars have advantages and disadvantages.

The latter are particularly useful where people are looking for relaxation and no power outlets - but still need them.

Hoteliers in the Miesbach district have reacted to this.

They report how the increase in battery-powered vehicles is working out in practice.

Charging stations in hotels in the Miesbach district: Bayerischer Hof "probably the first hotel"

Uwe Schulze-Clewing, managing director of the Bayerischer Hof in Miesbach, says: “We were probably the first hotel in the district to offer a charging station.” Eight years ago the solar filling station was built - a lot has happened since then.

“The carport with a solar roof used to be exotic - just like the electric cars of the time,” says Schulze-Clewing.

As an event location for car manufacturers, the charging station was initially a figurehead - for example for BMW.

Years ago, the Munich-based company presented the i8 in Miesbach.

While in the first few years after the construction of the two charging points, on average only one was occupied - once a month - today, at least one parking space is used per day.

"We are noticing the increased number of registrations here too." So much so that the hotel will ask for money for the previously free charging station.

“We sell the electricity at cost price,” emphasizes the managing director.

Cars would now charge for ten to 15 euros - "We can no longer afford that." The sockets are reserved for hotel guests.

The Westerhof has been offering charging stations "for six years"

The trend towards e-mobility was also recognized early in the Westerhof at Tegernseer Point. Hotel director Niels van Meerwijk says: “We have had four charging stations at the hotel for a good six years.” With type 2 plugs, vehicles of different makes can recharge their batteries at three connections. The fourth charging point is reserved for Tesla electric cars. In addition, the hotel provides its guests with household sockets for charging. “Usage is still a bit cautious, but it is increasing steadily,” says van Meerwijk.

While around 20 to 40 vehicles used the charging facility in recent years, this year there were already more than 35 - a record can be expected by the end of the year.

“Guests can reserve the pillars in advance,” explains the hotel manager.

An offer that is gladly accepted: “For some, this is a criterion for choosing a hotel.” However, those who are spontaneously determined will usually find a free space at the socket.

“As part of the planned renovation, we could also have fast charging stations at some point - but that's still a long way off,” reveals van Meerwijk.

Company car, guest shuttle and power sockets: Berghotel Sudelfeld is probably a pioneer in e-mobility

The Berghotel Sudelfeld, also part of the Westerhof Group, has five charging stations ready for its guests.

Van Meerwjik says: "We have a total of four electrically operated Smarts for our employees in Tegernsee and Bayrischzell, which travel back and forth as company cars." There is also a shared Tesla as a guest shuttle in the hotels.

"We were among the first to rely on electromobility - also to bring our guests closer to practicality."

The associated Westerhof café in the Stieler house in Tegernsee therefore also has three pillars.

"Anyone who consumes something can top up with us free of charge," says van Meerwijk.

Landhaus am Stein hosts one or two electric cars per week - "a lot with 20 beds"

Simone Schnorr, owner of the Landhaus am Stein hotel in Bad Wiessee, has had a charging station with a type 2 plug ready for her guests since 2017.

She says: “Demand is increasing.” In the first two years, about a vehicle charged in two months.

"There are now one or two e-car drivers a week - a lot for a hotel with 20 beds." There are also guests who ask for a charging facility before booking.

Federal Motor Transport Authority confirms the number of electric cars: Hybrid cars doubled

These experiences can be substantiated with numbers. The share of electric and hybrid cars among new registrations in Bavaria increased significantly in 2020 compared to 2019. The Bavarian State Office for Statistics attests e-cars “a plus of 146.4 percent” compared to the figures of the previous year. In 2020 they made up 6.2 percent. 90.8 percent more hybrids were registered in 2020 - 19.5 percent of the total.

In the Miesbach district, the number of vehicles is also changing - as measured by the Federal Motor Transport Authority: In 2020, the number of hybrid cars doubled from 777 to 1,585 vehicles.

The proportion of purely electrically powered cars rose from 266 to 478. A good five percent of the cars registered in the Miesbach district were electric or partially electric as of January 1, 2021.

According to the Federal Network Agency, there are 85 public charging points here in the district.

The Federal Association of Energy and Water Management sees the municipality of Holzkirchen with 39 charging points in fourth place nationwide in the category of small towns and rural communities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.

Operator from Gmund: online platform “emobilhotels.de” helps e-drivers to find a hotel

Last year, Gmund Thomas Ammer published the online platform “emobilhotels.de” - operated by his communications agency “Toc” based in the Tegernsee valley.

The website lists over 1000 hotels in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy that are equipped with charging stations.

Ammer says: “The number of electric drivers is increasing.” Particularly when it comes to vacation planning, there is a need for information on charging options.

“Since May 2020, the platform has been presenting hotels with charging stations that have joined the agency.

Users can also add hotels with charging stations that are not yet listed to the platform themselves.

So far, emobilhotels.de has six hotels in the Miesbach district.
