Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh described as "suspicious" reports of security incidents involving ships near the Gulf coast and the Sea of Oman.
In a statement carried by Iran's Fars News Agency, Khatibzadeh warned against creating a false atmosphere for specific political purposes in the region, expressing at the same time the Iranian navy's readiness to provide naval support services if necessary for the passage of ships in the region.
Earlier today, news reports spoke of four oil tankers getting out of control in mysterious circumstances in the Gulf of Oman off the coast of the UAE, while the British Maritime Trade Agency warned of an accident in international waters off the coast of the Emirate of Fujairah, suggesting that it is a possible piracy and kidnapping.
