Iraq... Arrest of a terrorist network planning to target citizens in Kirkuk

The Iraqi intelligence agency announced the arrest of a large terrorist network that was planning to target citizens in Kirkuk Governorate.

The agency said in a statement carried by Alsumaria News: “After the arrest of a large terrorist network in Kirkuk governorate, responsible for the Al-Wahilat market bombings in Sadr City, and after careful intelligence follow-up and security and intelligence tracking, the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency in the Ministry of Interior succeeded in arresting a second terrorist cell in Al-Anbar wanted to carry out attacks in crowded public places to target safe innocents during last Eid al-Adha.”

The statement indicated that preliminary investigations revealed that the cell members carried out terrorist operations to target army and Popular Mobilization patrols in 2018 with explosive devices, and their attempts to carry out major attacks during the days of Eid al-Adha.

The statement pointed out that the necessary investigations were carried out and the confessions of the terrorists were legally ratified in preparation for referring them to the judiciary to receive the punishment for the crimes committed by their hands against the Iraqi people.
