New York adopts vaccination pass for all cultural activities in confined spaces

Bill de Blasio, the mayor of the city, announced on Tuesday the obligation to present proof of vaccination to go to the theater, to the cinema, to restaurants or to sports halls.


New York City will require proof of vaccination for indoor activities, including restaurants, gyms and shows, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Tuesday.

The announcement is the latest in a series of initiatives to encourage more residents to get vaccinated as the Delta variant spreads in the country's most populous city.

This measure, which de Blasio has promoted as a first in the country, will be gradually applied over the coming weeks and will be mandatory in all enclosed spaces welcoming the public from September 13.



To implement this initiative, the city is creating the "Key to NYC Pass" which will establish proof of covid vaccination for employees and customers of gyms, restaurants and entertainment venues, the mayor said.

New York State has recorded more than 2.15 million covid-19 patients since the start of the pandemic and more than 53,000 deaths. For the past fortnight, the city has recorded a 135% increase in the number of cases and apprehends a new epidemic wave due to the implantation of the delta variant.
