A Palestinian-American was convicted of murder Tuesday by Israeli military justice, after shooting in May at a young Israeli who succumbed to his wounds, the army said.

Montasser Shalabi, 44, was "
sentenced on the basis of his confession
" for "
intentional homicide, which amounts to murder,
" the IDF said in a statement, adding that the sentence would be announced on October 4, 2021.
Shalabi, who opened fire in early May from a car on people at a bus stop near Nablus in the northern West Bank, was also convicted of "
attempted murder, possession of a weapon and obstruction of justice
”.
He injured three students at a Talmudic school in the Israeli settlement of Itamar in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 by Israel.
One of them, 19-year-old Yehuda Guetta, died of his injuries.
His house destroyed by the Israelis
Last month, the Israeli army destroyed Montasser Shalabi's house in Turmus Ayya, a village near Ramallah in the West Bank, which the United States denounced, saying "
the home of an entire family should not be destroyed for the actions of a single individual
”.

exacerbates tensions and weakens efforts to advance a two-state solution
", Palestinian and Israeli, Washington said.
Israel regularly destroys the homes of Palestinians accused of carrying out anti-Israel attacks, arguing the deterrent nature of this measure, decried by Palestinian and human rights organizations.
