Unterföhring - A 25-year-old set fire to a mattress in the accommodation on Bauhofstrasse in Unterföhring on Monday afternoon.

It is thanks to the determined intervention of the security service that no more happened in the event of a serious arson in Unterföhring.

The police received a message around 4:20 p.m. that there was a fire in the refugee's dormitory.

Security averts the danger

The 25-year-old had an argument with his 22-year-old roommate and lit his mattress with a lighter.

It is not known what the dispute was about.

When the fire alarms went off, a member of the security staff was quickly on the spot.

He intervened courageously, took the burning mattress outside and extinguished it, reports to the police.

The two roommates were also taken outside.

If the room had caught fire, the fire in the wooden house could have spread quickly.

Fire brigade brings residents outside

When the fire brigade arrived with four emergency vehicles, the helpers took the 30 residents outside.

The police put the fire damage in the room at several hundred euros.

The officers arrested the 25-year-old and took him to the detention center in the Bureau.

According to the police, the 25-year-old is known for other offenses: drug possession, bodily harm, damage to property and property crimes.

The police station 13 has taken over the investigation.

120 people, including three families, live in the two wooden houses on Bauhofstrasse.

The rooms are designed for five residents each, but some refugees have moved out and places have not been filled.

"During the pandemic, many refugees lost their jobs and became more isolated as a result," says Dagmar Hoffmann, the chairwoman of the group of helpers, describing the situation. Even the helpers, who still play an important role in integration, were not allowed into the house at times. They tried to keep in touch by telephone, set up computer workstations and provided support with applications, with German lessons and with learning for school.
