Berlin - Barely a month and a half before the federal election in 2021, the battle for the Federal Chancellery remains exciting.

SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz has been able to polish up his popularity ratings among the population, especially in recent weeks, and in surveys he was clearly ahead of his competitors Armin Laschet and Annalena Baerbock.

Federal election 2021: Scholz further ahead in polls - Laschet wiped off by CDU voters

This picture is also confirmed in a survey published on Tuesday that the polling institute Forsa carried out on behalf of RTL / ntv. When asked which of the candidates for chancellor they would vote if the chancellor could be directly elected, 21 percent of those questioned decided in favor of Scholz. The finance minister is thus a plus of three percentage points compared to the previous week. 18 percent opted for Annalena Baerbock (-1 percentage point). Armin Laschet is still lagging behind in third place. The CDU politician lost two percentage points.

It is particularly interesting that not even half of the CDU supporters (46 percent) spoke out in favor of Laschet as Chancellor.

In comparison, 67 percent of the SPD supporters and 68 percent of the Greens supporters stated that they would vote for Scholz or Baerbock.

Federal election 2021: Union continues to be the strongest force - Greens lose easily

Laschet can, however, view his party's survey results positively.

The Union remains clearly the strongest force in the current survey and comes - just like in the previous week - 26 percent.

The Greens lose one percentage point and get 20 percent of the vote, while the SPD can gain one percentage point and thus stand at 16 percent.

FDP (13 percent) and AfD (10 percent) are stagnating compared to the previous week.

The Left Party loses one percentage point and comes dangerously close to the five percent threshold with 6 percent of the vote.

Federal election 2021: Germany coalition most popular - little approval for traffic light alliance

Based on the survey, three different coalitions are currently conceivable that would achieve the necessary majority in parliament.

Schwarz-Grün, a Germany coalition made up of the Union, SPD and FDP, as well as the so-called traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, FDP and the Greens.

As part of the survey, the respondents were also asked to indicate which coalition they would like best at this point in time.

The most popular coalition was the Germany Alliance with 24 percent.

In second place followed with 22 percent a green-red-red coalition of the SPD, the Left and the Greens, which at the moment could not have a majority.

18 percent wanted a black-green government, while only 10 percent were in favor of a traffic light coalition.
