In Germany, there is now a general obligation to test for those returning to travel.
This means that vacationers often have to be tested for the corona virus abroad.
Since August 1, those returning from the age of twelve must present a negative corona test, provided they have not been vaccinated or have recovered.
Therefore, many vacationers have no choice but to get tested for the virus abroad.
While every citizen in Germany has the right to at least one antigen test per week, it can look different in other European countries.
We have
summarized
the
cost of PCR and antigen testing
in the most popular vacation destinations.
Italy vacation: That is what corona tests on site cost
Residents and tourists have to pay for corona tests in Italy.
The prices are determined by the individual regions and can therefore differ.
In the case of an
antigen test
, however, they are usually between 20 and 50 euros, while a
PCR test
can cost between 50 and 120 euros, as the European Consumer Center Germany (EVZ) informs.
Most pharmacies also offer rapid antigen tests.
If you want to be tested for the corona virus free of charge, you have this option at a total of twelve train stations across the country where the Italian Red Cross (Croce Rossa Italiana) has set up stands.
The offer is valid until September 2021. However, vacationers should go to the test station in good time, as the free test option is very popular.
This is how much antigen and PCR tests cost in Spain
Prices for corona tests can vary widely in Spain,
but are on average just under 50 euros for rapid antigen tests and often less than 100 euros for PCR tests
.
The airline Vueling offers antigen tests for 35 euros (results in 6 to 12 hours) and PCR tests for 85 euros (results in 24 to 48 hours).
In the
Balearic Islands
, the prices for antigen tests are capped at 30 euros and for PCR tests at 75 euros.
Austria: rapid antigen tests possible free of charge
Throughout the country there are so-called “
test streets
” in which citizens, but also tourists, can have a rapid antigen
test carried out
free of charge.
The test result is available after about 15 minutes.
According to the EVZ, free rapid antigen tests are also available in pharmacies if you register in advance.
Voluntary PCR tests have to be paid for by yourself.
For example, a PCR test at Vienna Airport costs 69 euros.
Croatia vacation: what antigen and PCR tests cost
Tourists in Croatia have to pay for their corona test themselves.
Rapid antigen
tests
usually cost around 20 euros,
PCR tests
around 65 euros.

If you are on holiday in Greece, you can get tested in clinics or directly at the airport.
The prices for
rapid antigen
tests range
between
15 and 40 euros, for
PCR tests
between 40 and 70 euros.
PCR and antigen tests in Portugal
In Portugal, rapid antigen tests cost between 25 and 40 euros, depending on the laboratory and clinic, and PCR tests between 100 and 120 euros, according to the EVZ.
A negative test result must be presented upon arrival in Portugal - otherwise there is a risk of a fine and holidaymakers must be tested on site for a fee.
France vacation: That's what the corona tests cost
Tourists in France have to pay for their corona test themselves.
An antigen test costs 25 euros, and a PCR test costs 43.89 euros.
However, since there is often an
additional
processing
fee, the prices are usually higher.
At the airport in Paris, for example, a rapid antigen test costs 30 euros, while a PCR test costs 50 euros.
