Seven permanent delegates to the African Union in Addis Ababa have submitted an objection to the Union Commission granting the Israeli occupation entity the status of an observer member of the African Commission.
The note verbale sent by the embassies of Algeria, Egypt, Comoros, Tunisia, Djibouti, Mauritania and Libya to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki said, “We would like to notify the Commission of our rejection of the step taken by its President on this sensitive political issue,” noting that “a long time ago and the decisions of the African Union A clear expression of his firm position in support of the Palestinian cause and indebted to the practices of “Israel” in all its forms against the brotherly Palestinian people, which contradict the supreme interest of the union, its values, ideals and decisions.
The memorandum expressed regret that the Chairperson of the Commission “did not consider the Israeli request in the manner followed by its predecessors, which is in line with the principles and objectives contained in the Constitutive Act of the African Union and the decisions issued by the various organs of the Union, as well as the criteria for granting observer status and the accreditation system to the organization approved by the Executive Council, which is This represents an unacceptable procedural and political transgression by the Chairperson of his discretion.”
Algeria and other countries responded to the decision of the African Commission and considered it without the capacity or ability to legitimize the practices and behaviors of the new observer that completely contradict the values, principles and objectives stipulated in the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
