The government has promoted electric vehicles in recent years. The Environment Bureau has earlier launched the "Road Map for the Popularization of Electric Vehicles", and bus companies will gradually introduce electric buses.

KMB recently "passed through the barriers" with the Town Planning Board to apply for the construction of an 11-storey electric bus depot with an area of approximately 7,926 square meters in the open space next to the administrative building of the Chek Lap Kok Tunnel Highway in Tuen Mun.

According to the application documents, 406 electric bus parking spaces will be provided in the depot. It is expected that KMB will expand its electric bus fleet on a large scale, hoping to promote the electrification of buses more efficiently.

The B12A electric 12-meter single-deck bus delivered by BYD to KMB previously uses a water cooling system to control battery temperature, effectively extending battery life and improving performance.

According to KMB's application form, in response to housing problems, the government requires KMB to return the parking facilities in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai before the end of 2021.

The Government also agreed to use Lots A, B and C on the northbound and southbound locations of the original toll plaza at Chek Lap Kok Link Road in Tuen Mun for the use of KMB.

The document mentioned that since the Tuen Chi Tunnel has been exempted from tolls, the toll plaza can be vacated for other uses.

With the support of the Transport Department, KMB proposed to build a permanent multi-storey depot on Lot A with a site area of 7,926 square meters. The building is expected to reach 11 floors and can provide 406 electric bus parking spaces.

KMB stated that in order to comply with the electric bus policy, it hopes to build depots with modern equipment and adequate charging facilities, which it believes will help KMB adopt more double-deck electric buses.

In addition, the depot can store night-parking buses scattered at various terminals and streets in the west of the New Territories in the same depot to reduce nuisance to the public.

KMB also mentioned in the application document that other existing depots have limited surplus power, so the process of adding charging facilities is not smooth, and there is not enough space to build large-scale substations.

KMB believes that it is necessary to build a brand new depot with sufficient power supply and facilities, tailor-made for electric buses, so that the electrification of buses can be promoted more efficiently.

KMB said that China Light and Power has also confirmed that it can provide sufficient power supply for the new site. The bus factory is also designed to meet the needs of larger charging berths, and the cable ducts have been laid in advance.

Transformer room and electric bus parking lot will be built in the remaining two sections

As for Lots B and C, KMB stated that a two-storey power transformer room will be built in part of Lot B. The remaining part and Lot C will be reserved for electric barbers because they are located on the highway structure and are not suitable for building development. For car use.
