A train from the private German provider Länderbahn (alex) is involved in the serious train accident in the Czech Republic.

The alex train was on the Munich-Prague route, as the company announced on Wednesday morning.

Numerous rescue services and the emergency managers of České Drahy (CD) are active on site.

The traffic of the alex is operated on the Czech side under the responsibility of the CD.

The company did not initially provide any further information about the accident.

However, the Länderbahn set up a special hotline on 0341-9135 4040.

According to the police, the accident occurred near Domazlice (Taus) in the southwest of the country near the border with Bavaria.

Shortly before eight o'clock, the two trains collided on the tracks in the village of Milavče in the Domažlice region.

One of the trains came from Munich and was on its way to Prague via Ceske Kubice.

The other train is a passenger train that runs between Pilsen and Domazlice.

Dozens of rescue workers were on site.

Three rescue helicopters and other ambulances have been requested.

"The situation is serious, I am on my way to the scene of the accident," tweeted Czech Transport Minister Karel Havlicek.

According to initial findings, the Munich-Prague express train passed a stop signal at Domazlice (Taus) near the German border.

He then collided with the local train, a so-called RegioShark.

The latter runs on the Pilsen-Domazlice route.

Apparently, the trains crashed head-on, as can be seen in photos on social media.

The operation of the train route is temporarily interrupted, informs the agency CTK.

There are alternative bus connections between Domažlice and Staňkov train stations.

According to travel information from Deutsche Bahn, the train connection between Munich Central Station, departure 11:15 a.m., and Prague is canceled.

At 12.43 p.m. the next ALX 359 runs to Furth im Walde and then as EX RE 25 to Prague.

Accidents happen again and again on Czech railways.

Only a year ago two trains collided head-on in the Ore Mountains near the German border.
