Bavaria: lateral thinkers get plebiscites - referendum to recall the state parliament would be the last consequence
According to Article 18 of the Bavarian Constitution, the state parliament can “be recalled by referendum at the request of one million citizens entitled to vote”.
This means that in the end there could theoretically be a referendum in which those eligible to vote could decide to recall the state parliament with a simple majority.
The applicant is the "Alliance - Landtag - Abberufen", which among other things consists of several "lateral thinker citizens' movements". The Ministry of the Interior approved your petition for a referendum on July 27 after it became clear that the requirement of at least 25,000 signatures had been met.
The alliance accuses the Bavarian parliament of having "abolished itself". It argues that the MPs are, on the one hand, subject to parliamentary group compulsion and, on the other hand, are completely subject to a decision from Berlin in the corona crisis. One of the minds behind the initiative is Munich's Karl Hilz - he ran for free voters in 2008 himself for entry into the state parliament. Hilz is one of the best-known faces of the lateral thinker movement * and, like other parts of the group, is observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. In general, he speaks of the fact that “this state is being run in a totalitarian way”. (
