Iranian police today seized more than 3 tons of drugs in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeast of Iran.
Fars news agency quoted the provincial police chief, Brigadier General Ahmed Taheri, as saying in a statement today that "in a coordinated operation and after monitoring the activities of drug smuggling gang members in Iranshahr region, more than 3 tons of drugs were seized after an armed clash with smugglers who fled."
Taheri pointed out that after vigorous police follow-up, two cars of members of this gang were also stopped in the cities of Iranshahr and Chabahar, and more than 112 kilograms of opium and 62 kilograms of hashish were found in the possession of smugglers.
The Iranian authorities are continuing their campaigns to pursue drug smugglers and dealers in several regions of the country.
