Legal representatives of alliances and political parties registered seven forms of candidates for president and vice president of Nicaragua this Monday before the Supreme Electoral Council to participate in the general elections on November 7, marked by the arrest of dozens of opponents.

They also presented their lists of candidates to national and departmental deputies and to the Central American Parliament.

Registration takes place when there are more than three months left for an election that will be held after the arrest of more than 30 opponents, including seven candidates for the presidency and most of them investigated for alleged acts against national sovereignty, Kitty Monterrey, president and representative Citizens for Freedom Party (CXL), registered its applicants. The presidential formula is made up of the former commander of the counterrevolution Óscar Sobalvarro and the then Miss Nicaragua 2017 Berenice Quezada. Sobalvarro was selected by the rank and file of his party after, according to the president, three registered candidates were imprisoned.

However, this Wednesday, the Public Ministry added Quezada to its long list of accused politicians Carlos Canales, representative of the Alliance for the Republic Party (APRE), enrolled in his presidential formula: the lawyer Gerson Gutiérrez Gasparín, 29, and Claudia Maria Romero.

This party has only one seat in the National Assembly.

Mejía Ferreti and her formula avoided talking to the press.

Candidates of Ortega and Murillo confirmed for the Nicaraguan elections

The Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) party presented and approved "unanimously" Ortega's candidacy for president of Nicaragua for a fourth consecutive term.

And also the candidacy for vice president of his wife and government spokesperson, Rosario Murillo, for the second consecutive term.

According to the official website El 19 Digital, 2,932 congressmen, 1,485 women and 1,447 men participated in the Sandinista Congress.

During the official event, the candidacies for deputies to the National Assembly and the Central American Parliament were also approved.

The lawyer and former priest Edgar Parrales, consulted by CNN in Managua, said that five of the formulas do not represent the opposition because they are presented by parties he calls "collaborationists", whose activity is limited to electoral time.

In addition, he said that the selection system was not transparent, that they are unknown to the population and that they allegedly did not present a government plan.

CNN consulted the legal representatives or communicators of the Liberal Constitutionalist parties (PLC), Alianza Ciudadanos por la Libertad (CXL) Alliance for the Republic (APRE), as well as the president of the Independent Liberal Party (PLI).

They refuse to be considered collaborationists, and argue that this qualification responds to smear campaigns for not agreeing with the proposals of other sectors of the opposition that reject the elections alleging lack of conditions.

They define themselves as organizations that intend to contribute to the country and that are legally constituted.

They claim to have representation in various departments of the country, although they say they cannot calculate exactly how many members there are in their parties.

Nor did they explain what kind of political activities they carry out outside of electoral times.

They add that their formulas were chosen after consulting with their bases or religious groups and that they have government plans that they will detail later.

The representatives of the Nicaraguan Christian Way and the Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance Party (ALN), so far, have not responded to CNN's requests for a response.
