Greece vacation: Acropolis is closed in the afternoon
Numerous
outdoor archaeological sites
, most notably the
Acropolis in Athens
, remain closed during the hot days.
The Greek Ministry of Culture announced this on its website, among other things.
The sites are since Tuesday (August 3rd) to Thursday (5 August)
12:00 to 17:00
closed.
The Acropolis is usually open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in summer.
A visit there can currently be dangerous for the body due to the scorching heat.
Therefore, the Greek civil defense calls on people to avoid physical exertion during the day.

Forest fires hit some regions of Greece
According to a report by the German Press Agency, the weather office in Athens expects
temperatures of up to 46 degrees by the weekend

Only from Saturday the temperatures should slowly drop - but still be a maximum of 37 degrees.
Due to the heat wave, civil defense is also warning of a high risk of forest fires in large parts of the country.
The region around Athens, the Peloponnese, the island of Crete and the Aegean Islands are particularly affected.
On Tuesday night, the fire brigade had to do with larger and smaller fires on the island of Rhodes, in a ravine near the village of Maritsa, on the Peloponnese peninsula and on the Evros river on the Greek-Turkish border.
Tourist facilities were not threatened.
