Representing President Bashar al-Assad, People's Assembly Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh today congratulated on behalf of the Syrian people and their leadership, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on the occasion of his assumption of the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iranian President Sabbagh conveyed his greetings to President al-Assad and the Syrian people, expressing his wishes for security and stability for Syria and its people, stressing the development of political and economic relations between Tehran and Damascus to serve the interests of the two countries.

The Iranian president praised the steadfastness of the Syrian people, their leadership and their courageous resistance to Western terrorism and their victory in the face of terrorism thanks to the sacrifices of the martyrs, including the martyr Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, stressing the need to leave the illegal foreign forces on Syrian soil as soon as possible so that the Syrian people can Begin the reconstruction process with the speed and force required.

For his part, Sabbagh stressed that the Syrian-Iranian relations are strong and rooted and cannot be undermined, pointing out that the mixture of Syrian and Iranian blood in the joint battle against terrorism constituted the most important element in achieving victory over terrorism.

Sabbagh stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, especially economic ones, stressing that the Syrian people will never forget the Iranian people's support for Syria in fighting terrorism and in various political and economic fields.

The meeting was attended by the Syrian Ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Shafik Diop, and the delegation accompanying the Speaker of the People's Assembly.

Sabbagh had discussed with the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf ways to develop joint cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of parliamentary cooperation.

Sabbagh stressed the need for joint action to raise the level of relations and develop them in various fields, especially the areas of economic and trade cooperation, stressing the importance of achieving what was agreed upon during Qalibaf's visit to Damascus, following up on that by the parliaments of the two countries, and giving the relations practicality to reach results that serve the interests of the two friendly peoples and countries.

The two sides affirmed their firm determination to continue coordination and work to achieve the best desired results and achieve a qualitative leap in developing economic relations in light of the pressures and unjust coercive unilateral sanctions that the two countries are subjected to.

The meeting was attended by the Syrian traveler in Tehran, Dr. Shafik Diop, and members of the delegation accompanying the President of the People's Assembly.

In addition, the Syrian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Committee held a session of discussions focused on ways to enhance and develop parliamentary, economic and cultural cooperation, as required by the current stage, given the challenges that the two countries are facing from pressures and unfair sanctions.

Emphasis was placed on developing practical programs and action plans to reach results that serve the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
