A security service will shortly be deployed in front of the specialist clinic in Lenggries on the weekend.

The reason for this are visitors who do not adhere to the rules, the clinic management justifies the move.

They were previously astonished about some things.

Lenggries -

When Peter Bekk wanted to visit an elderly lady in the Lenggries specialist clinic on Saturday, July 24th, he was astonished and worried: A concertina fence with the inscription “No access for visitors on the weekend” was on the way. In addition, the garden gate in front of the main entrance was locked with a bicycle lock. “It wasn't the weekend before, we could get in,” says the man from Munich

.

So nothing came of the renewed visit - instead they talked to each other on the phone. A clinic employee, reported Bekk, said on site that it was an "official instruction" - but no more could be found about it.

The specialist clinic Lenggries offers space for 60 patients in the geriatric rehab area.

At the request of the Tölzer Kurier, the management reported on the Corona rules last Friday.

“The relatives must register, identify themselves and prove that they have been completely vaccinated or have recovered,” says deputy managing director Petra Netzer.

The patients you want to meet must also be vaccinated or have recovered.

Then you could meet in the hospital's common areas without a time limit, but with observance of the distance rules.

Visits now also possible on weekends

So far, visits were only possible from Monday to Friday under these conditions. In the course of our newspaper's research, however, things got moving - as of the coming weekend, patients could also be visited on Saturdays and Sundays, said clinic managing director Nikolaus Netzer on Monday afternoon. A security service will be hired to monitor compliance with the rules. Relatives and persons named as contact persons at the time of admission are considered relatives with visiting rights.

According to the Netzers, since the clinic lifted the complete visit freeze in June, there have been "brisk rushes" on some days.

The majority of visitors and patients would get along well with the rules, but sometimes there were also discussions and even trespassing when visitors tried to get into the ward areas through side doors and basement entrances.

This mainly happened on the weekends when there were fewer employees in the clinic, says Petra Netzer: "Our nurses are very stressful." That is why the decision was made at the end of July to erect a concertina fence in front of the clinic.

Visits to rooms are still prohibited

Visits to the room are still not permitted. "This has not been possible since March 2020 because the protection of roommates cannot be guaranteed," says Nikolaus Netzer, who is also the clinic's hygiene officer. The average age of the patients is 84. “They are our wards,” says his wife. As reported, there was a major corona outbreak in the clinic in winter.

The lady looked after by the Bekk family is now home again. When asked about the weekend visits that are now possible, Bekk is satisfied. At that time, at the beginning of the rehab, he already received other information about visiting options on the phone, says the Munich resident. Bekk regrets, however, that visiting rights only apply to relatives. The Munich resident is not a biological relative of the 83-year-old, whom he claims to have been looking after for many years. “The closest relatives live in Hamburg.” She said nothing of a questionnaire when she was admitted. And despite his request, he was not informed of the discharge day to pick up the 83-year-old. In addition, the maintenance handover protocol was missing. The clinic contradicts this representation and points out thatthat the Munich resident was not classified as a “relative” by the patient.

It would also be nice, says Bekk, if it were possible in future to take the patients for a walk outside the clinic premises.

The clinic management, in turn, fears that a “walk” could quickly become an excursion with a corona risk.

"The legal basis is such that initially the closest relatives have the right to visit hospitals," says Nikolaus Netzer.

The fact that there are currently no time limits for visitors is "a compromise that goes much further than is usual at other clinics".
