Mayor Boris Palmer still lacks the approval of the local council for the plan to increase the parking fees for SUVs in Tübingen by a factor of twelve.

The Green politician wants to stick to it despite criticism of the project.

Under the headline “Drivers gamble,” Palmer advertised on Tuesday evening on Facebook for the proposal to increase the fees for resident parking from 30 to up to 360 euros per year.

The politician apparently reacted to the sometimes violent criticism that he received on social media.

Palmer now wrote to the drivers: “You haven't paid for the road.

You don't pay enough taxes already.

Your favorite vehicle will receive massive subsidies from all tax figures and future generations.

If the prices were telling the truth, a parking space would not have to cost 30 euros a year, but 3000. «The mayor referred to corresponding assessments by the transport scientist Andreas Knie.

Also to the criticism of a user that Palmer is now waging a "personal campaign against cars and their owners", Palmer responded: "No, only against people who want to let others pay for the parking space and then also cry around."

Palmer also referred to an earlier decision of the local council, according to which a climate protection program was decided.

There it says that the parking fees will be increased significantly.

The income should flow into local transport.

Exclusion proceedings against Palmer could drag on

The local politician had repeatedly clashed with his party, most recently he made headlines with a racist statement about soccer player Dennis Aogo.

In the meantime, a party expulsion process is pending against Palmer, but this could drag on for months.

The Green Party Congress in Baden-Württemberg voted in favor of such a procedure in May.

Palmer himself welcomed the trial and described it as an opportunity to defend himself against "baseless and absurd allegations".

A decision could only be made after the general election.
