The Hong Kong Rugby Association stated that in view of many uncertain factors and the tight schedule for the event, there are only 92 days left before the start of the tournament. It has become an "impossible task" for Rugby to organize the tournament with strict standards. After discussions with the International Rugby Council, participating rugby associations and relevant government departments, it was decided to cancel the current Hong Kong Rugby Sevens.
The club also stated that with the increasing vaccination rate, it is believed that the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens in April next year will be staged as expected.
The club also reminded that no tickets have been sold for the 2021 event so far.
