Federica Pellegrini was elected a IOC member to represent the athletes who voted at the Olympic Village.

In Italian sport the only precedent is that of Manuela Di Centa.

Federica Pellegrini was third among those elected.

Fourth was the Japanese foilist Yuki Ota.

"This election opens me an important window on my world but with another role. I am very happy. I will always be connected to the Olympics, in other guises but always as an athlete. The future? This was my last Olympics: out of me expect a very exciting life, perhaps a little less tiring ". Federica Pellegrini says this, commenting on her election as a CIO member representing the athletes. "What I want to do in the IOC is to make the life of an athlete who approaches the Olympics easier and easier," he added.
