Anti-Covid vaccine: controversy after the publication of a post by a CNRS sociologist

2021-08-05T14:44:27.679Z

Originally published on the Mediapart blog but withdrawn on Wednesday August 4, the post was supposed to demonstrate the dangerousness of vaccines against the coronavirus.

Is Laurent Mucchielli anti-vaccine?

"

Certainly not, these terms serve to disqualify us

," he defends himself when asked.

Contacted by

Le Figaro

at the beginning of the week, the sociologist and research director at the CNRS, well known in the "

vaccine-skeptical

"

galaxy

, explains that he does not agree with "

the official religion

".

And the controversy that arose from his article?

"

The magnitude does not surprise me, I put my finger where it hurts

".

The sociologist published a post on the Mediapart blog on July 30, which did not go unnoticed. If the blog is "

the space of free contribution of Médiapart subscribers whose contents do not engage the editorial staff

", as can be read at the end of each contribution, the information site decided, Wednesday August 4, to collect the ticket in question. "

Seized by nearly a hundred alerts, particularly from health professionals [...] and after taking the time to reflect, nourished by collective exchanges of our team where opinions were divided, we arrived to the conclusion that this last post from Laurent Mucchielli contravened our Participation Charter which prohibits the dissemination of false news

“, Justifies the drafting in an article explaining its decision.

What is the fake news in question?

Based on pharmacological data in France and abroad, the sociologist tries to demonstrate that the number of declared adverse events - and in particular of deaths - is greater for anti-Covid vaccines with new technologies (Pfizer and Moderna for messenger RNA, AstraZeneca and Janssen for adenovirus) than for conventional vaccines.

The researcher concludes the post by hammering out that this "

vaccine mortality [...] should lead to an emergency suspension of the vaccine campaign

".

Effects not attributable to vaccination

The researcher also denounces pell-mell in his post the "

pseudo-journalism which seeks to deny the reality of undesirable effects

" and the "

concealment

" of these data, "

criminal vis-à-vis the population

". Critical reactions have been numerous on social networks. Several Internet users did not fail to point out that the pharmacological data, far from being concealed, are available on the site of the National Medicines Health Agency. The ANSM publishes a report from the regional pharmacovigilance centers twice a month with all the data concerning the anti-Covid vaccination, of which the sociologist himself takes the figures.

Others also stressed that the adverse effects declared at these regional centers - and pointed out by the researcher - are not necessarily attributable to the vaccination.

This is what the ANSM specifies in its reports, calling into question the entire argument of the sociologist.

The CNRS distances itself

The depublication of this article by Médiapart did not fail to make the concerned react, who denounced on Twitter “

censorship

”.

Yesterday evening, the CNRS also distanced itself from the sociologist: “

Laurent Mucchieli speaks personally on the subject.

The CNRS dissociates itself from this position

”.

The post was republished on France Soir in its entirety.

This site is part of the “

vaccine-skeptical

galaxy

, like the RéinfoCovid site, to which the CNRS research director has already contributed on several occasions.

Initially a CNRS researcher in the fields of security and delinquency, Laurent Mucchielli has published nearly a hundred posts on the Médiapart blog since his first contribution in 2009. Since the start of the pandemic, he has spoken on health and medical issues over which he has no particular expertise.
