The Election Committee subsector elections will be held in September. The nomination period will begin on Friday (6th) and the official voter register will be officially opened for public inspection today (5th).

Under the new election system, there are 30 election committees in the education sector, of which 16 are ex officio members, including 11 university presidents. However, according to the official voter register, only two university presidents are registered as authorized representatives, and the rest of the universities are governed by school directors. The chairman or vice-principal serves as the authorized representative.

Among them, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong are registered as the authorized representatives by the Chief Vice President Wang Yujian and the Vice President Wu Shupei respectively. Only Lingnan University and Hang Seng University are registered as the authorized representatives by the President.

In the past, the education sector has always been a democratic party. In the last session, it won all seats in the education sector and higher education sector. This year, it has been merged into the "Education Sector", occupying 30 seats, of which 16 are ex officio members, including 11 local university presidents.

According to the official voter register released today, there are only two principals registered as authorized representatives, namely, the principal of Lingnan University, Zheng Guohan, and the principal of Evergrande University, He Shunwen.

In other universities, the vice-president or the chairman of the school council is registered as the authorized representative. Hong Kong University is represented by the chief vice-president Wang Yujian instead of the principal Zhang Xiang; CUHK dispatches the vice-president Wu Shupei, and HKUST also uses the vice-president Pang Dingquan as the authorized representative .

As for the Baptist University and the Open University, Chen Zhenren and Huang Yijian, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, respectively, are represented, and Li Zijian, the vice president of the University of Education, is the authorized representative.

According to the regulations, if the president of a university does not meet the qualifications for registration, the chairman of the school council or the chairman of the school council of the university shall be a specified position in the subsector.
