The Daraa Agriculture Directorate estimated the governorate’s production of the pomegranate crop during the current season at about 30 thousand tons.
The head of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation in the directorate, Eng. Hassan Al-Ahmad, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the pomegranate is planted for irrigation in most areas of the governorate. The cultivated area is 980 hectares, with about 400,000 trees, while rainfly is planted on limited areas of about 37 hectares containing about 15 thousand trees.
And he indicated that pomegranate cultivation is concentrated in the western region of the governorate, the second stability area in Muzayrib, Zayzoun, Tal Shehab, Al-Ajami, Glen, Dael and others, and this cultivation enjoys economic rent and abundant returns.
The pomegranate tree begins to produce after 3 years of planting, and the production ranges between 50 and 100 kg under 5 years, up to 200 kg over this period.
