Iran warned against some countries' continuing attempts to fabricate maritime accidents in the Gulf region, and demanded a halt to such irresponsible actions that harm the security and stability of the region.
The assistant of the Iranian permanent diplomatic mission to the United Nations, Zahra Arshadi, confirmed in a letter to the President of the UN Security Council that the three countries, Britain, Romania and Liberia, adopted unfounded allegations and arbitrarily sought to accuse Iran of attacking the tanker Mercer Street without providing any evidence and using some phrases such as (very likely), (preliminary assessments) and (one or more drones), as well as the use of vague terms such as (international partners).
Arshadi explained that the allegations of the three countries were presented for the first time by the Israeli entity for open political purposes, and therefore they are politically and morally irresponsible and strongly rejected.
Arshadi stressed that the Israeli occupation entity has been the main source of instability in the Middle East for more than 7 decades and has a long and dark past in attacking commercial ships, an example of which is the brutal attack on ships heading to the Gaza Strip carrying humanitarian aid to its people On merchant ships carrying oil and humanitarian goods to Syria.
Arshadi called on the Security Council to condemn the military “adventures” of the occupation entity in a sensitive region such as the Middle East, and to hold it responsible for all its illegal and destabilizing activities.
The Iranian diplomatic mission's assistant stressed that her country will not hesitate to take any necessary measure to fully preserve the security of its people, defend its sovereignty and provide for its national interests.
