The operators of the fraudulent call centers who pretend to be police officers seem to be changing their scam in a variety of ways in order to get their victims to hand over cash or valuables in a subtle way.

Zorneding - On Wednesday, August 4th, there were calls in the Zorneding area from alleged bank employees who inquired about the person's locker or stated that the locks on the lockers had to be replaced. A little later or the next day, the people called then receive a call from an alleged police officer who indicates that the previous call was an attempt at fraud. In the further process, the wrong police officers try to obtain information about the financial circumstances of the called party and subsequently persuade them to hand over cash or valuables.

The scam used by the perpetrators primarily targets the elderly as victims.

In none of the cases did any of the victims suffer any financial damage because they recognized the intent to commit fraud and ended the phone calls in good time.

"Even if the stories of the fraudsters change, the warnings from the police remain the same," says Helmut Hintereder, head of the Poingen police.

These are the police warnings

In principle, be suspicious of such calls!

The perpetrators often use a technical trick that shows the emergency number 110 on the display. Please note: The police will never call you on the emergency number 110!

In case of doubt, end the conversation as soon as possible without revealing personal data or information about existing valuables or cash!

Do not respond to requests for sums of money or valuables!

In case of doubt, call the police on a telephone number taken from the telephone book, in urgent cases also on the emergency number 110!

In principle, do not let strangers into your apartment!

Healthy mistrust is not a matter of rudeness: ask for an official ID card from alleged officials, for example police officers!

Talk to your relatives about the phenomenon and warn them about the actions of the perpetrators!
