Shmuel and Mazal Roditi lost their eldest son in a car accident and at the age of 50+ decided to have another child: "He is our gift".
The father says: "Matan has no heart for Killer, that's why he went long distances. Hopefully now he will get the exposure he deserves."

"We were at the bottom of the underworld. There was no point in life anymore and then we decided to bring Matan into the world. My wife gave birth to him when she was 50 and six months old. There was no such thing in Israel then, Matan was born in vitro fertilization because we had to sing something from the ground."
This is what Shmuel Roditi, the father of swimmer Matan Roditi, said today, who this morning made the achievement that, in the eyes of the Swimming Association and the Olympic Committee, has become the greatest Israeli swimmer ever.
The 22-year-old Roditi was just one spot away from the podium in the 10-kilometer open water podium and finished fourth.

Shmuel Roditi, 77, was a footballer and his four beautiful years were in 1969-1973, so as the defender of Ramat Gan, he won the championship with the Purples and two trophies. Today he said: "We built a house in Samaria and we were on the roof of the world. Then in 1997 the worst of all happened to us. Our eldest son, Yossi, was killed in a car accident and the world was destroyed. A year and a half later, when we find no comfort, Matan was born "We have another son named Yaniv. Matan made us parents to a baby when I was 54 and my wife's zodiac sign, almost 51 years old."
Father Roditi continued: "We left Samaria and moved to Herzliya. My love for Matan was immense. When he was five, when I saw children jealous of him and harassing him because he was such a successful child, I sent him to judo to gain confidence and become physically stronger. But Matan He did not want to, his heart is not Killer's heart. That's why even when he went swimming at 13, he could not swim short distances - where what matters is the jump and finish the opponents in a minute. So he went swimming long distances. I still remember "His first competitions in Nir David, in Nahal Hassi."
Samuel is not afraid to say what is on his heart, and his heart is heavy on him: "Tonight I felt a sense of joy mixed with sadness. It hurts me that this child was forgotten aside in terms of the Swimming Association and the Olympic Committee. "It's in Glasgow, where he finished fifth in Europe. The other swimmers get a lot more credit and fame and Matan doesn't get the exposure he deserves. Maybe now he will be treated with the respect he deserves, because his achievement is an achievement he has never had in swimming."
