The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Black Sea is turning into a dangerous military confrontation area and that NATO exercises in the region are provoking conflicts.
"The Black Sea at the present time is turning from an area of peace and good neighborliness to a dangerous military confrontation area," the director of the fourth European department in the ministry, Yuri Pelibson, told Sputnik.
"We have repeatedly warned that the escalation of military-political tension near our borders bears the character of confrontation," he added.
General Alexander Dvornikov, commander of the Russian Southern Military District, announced earlier that Russia constantly monitors NATO exercises in the waters of the Black Sea and responds harshly to any provocation attempts.
