New York Governor Andrew Cuomo faces criminal prosecution after an official investigation has found guilty of sexual harassment of several women.
At least four regional attorneys' offices in New York State, Manhattan, Westchester County, Nassau County and Albany County requested evidence from Attorney General Letitia James for review, according to reports Wednesday.
Previously, an investigation led by Attorney General James found that Cuomo had sexually molested former and current employees of the state authorities.
Among other things, there were unwanted touches, kisses, hugs and inappropriate comments.
In addition, the governor, who has been in office since 2011, has created a “hostile working atmosphere” and a “climate of fear” for women, according to the 168-page investigation report published on Tuesday.
The chairman of the New York House of Representatives, Carl Heastie, had announced a speedy impeachment trial against Cuomo.
According to experts, it will take several weeks before this could start.
Numerous prominent politicians from both parties then called for Cuomo's resignation - including US President Joe Biden, who is considered a long-time friend of the New York Democrat.
Cuomo rejected the allegations via video message and initially did not address a resignation.
