Activists from the animal protection association Peta disguised themselves Thursday in Bayonne as T-rex dinosaurs to denounce "
the old fossil mentality
" of the promoters of bullfighting, "
activity of the past, retrograde and archaic
".
The rally, during which about twenty activists organized a race on the banks of the Nive, wanted to draw attention to Bayonne, the first city to have organized a bullfight with killing in France, in 1853, according to Iris Douzet, spokesperson from Peta France, to AFP.

For "
aficionados
", bullfighting is an immutable tradition "
but a tradition does not guarantee that it is moral and ethical
", added Iris Douzet, "
sure that we tend towards abolition but we would just like it to be as soon as possible
”.
The Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) had recently tried to ban bullfighting in several French bullfighting towns.
She was unsuccessful in Bayonne in November 2020. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation also announced in a press release Thursday to start an anti-corrida poster campaign in the bullfighting towns of Orthez, also in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
