The Russian Interior Ministry revealed that more than 700,000 illegal immigrants from the CIS countries are currently in the country.
The Russian RIA Novosti news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today that "many foreign citizens are still secretly present in Russia... and have not submitted their papers to its departments."
An online meeting took place today between the Russian First Deputy Minister of Interior Alexander Gorovoy with the ambassadors of a number of CIS countries to find a comprehensive and balanced solution for their return to their countries.
In mid-December, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a presidential decree extending the period allowing illegal immigrants to reside in Russia until June 15, due to the Corona virus crisis.
