The rival to beat in all diving competitions is China.

There is no one who can snatch the throne from them in any of the tests in the graves, except for a surprising exception.

The rest of the countries are dedicated to fighting for third place.

Mexico is one of the biggest contenders in the world, the best in Latin America.

Mexicans Gabriela Agúndez and Alejandra Orozco finished in fourth and sixth position, respectively, in the grand final of the individual event on the 10-meter platform at Tokyo 2020. Agúndez gave her best solo performance to get among the best in the world.

The gold medal went to 14-year-old Chinese Hongchan Quan, who also signed two dives of 10, little seen in the water pits.

Yuxi Chen, 15, took the silver.

Orozco (Zapopan, 24 years old) and Agúndez (La Paz, 21 years old) as a couple won the bronze medal at the beginning of these Olympic Games.

His good performance was a boost for individual competition.

In the preliminary round, both managed to stay within the top 12.

In the semifinal, Agúndez finished as the fourth best;

Orozco was the twelfth.

Gaby Agúndez, more inspired by the final, began to spin good jumps to fight for the bronze medal and with rising grades (64.50, 70.95, 73.60). That led her to reach fourth place in the first three jumps. Her main rivals were the Australian Melissa Wu and the American Delaney Schnell. The penultimate dive earned him 74.25. Before the last pitch she was fourth. He needed to get past 80+ points in order to beat Wu and win bronze. The Mexican was pushed to the limit, but did not reach him with 75.20. The biggest parameter for Agúndez was the 2019 Pan American Games where she finished sixth. The Australian's coach is a Mexican, Salvador Sobrino, who moved to Oceania since the nineties.

Orozco had difficulties. His first jump opened the possibility for him to aspire to the first five places with a qualification of 66.00 points. The second (57.60) and the third (54.45) meant a drop in performance, according to the judges' decisions. The fourth jump was better until reaching 75.20 points. The last jump was 68.80, which separated him from contesting the bronze, but which left him in sixth place.

The Mexican delegation has participated in the Olympic Games with the highest number of divers and in all tests.

In addition to the bronze of Orozco and Agúndez, three fourth places are added (Carolina Mendoza and Lolita Hernández; Kevin Berlín and Diego Balleza; Juan Celaya and Yahel Castillo) and two sixth places (Aranza Vázquez, in the individual three-meter event, and Rommel Pacheco).

The men's individual events with Iván García and Andrés Villarreal still remain.

Mexico has, so far, seventh-fourth place in all competitions at the Olympic Games and with three bronze medals.
