Brigadier General Mike Herzog is the leading candidate for the position of Israeli ambassador to Washington - a senior Israeli official told Walla Walla today (Thursday)!

An announcement of his appointment is expected in the next two days.

The Prime Minister's Office confirmed that Herzog is a candidate for the position.

The news of his candidacy was first published in the Jerusalem Post.

Herzog is the brother of President Yitzhak Herzog.

He served as military secretary and chief of staff of Defense Ministers Shaul Mofaz, Amir Peretz and Ehud Barak.

During the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians in the years 2014-2013, Herzog was a member of the Israeli team and participated in the secret conversation channel with an associate of Abu Mazen Hussein Aga in London.
