Munich / Berlin - The federal election in 2021 promises a lot of excitement.
When Germany goes to the polls to vote for Parliament on September 26th, the main focus will be on who will nominate the Chancellor.
The question of which governing coalition is possible or likely will only be decided then.
And also how the individual top candidates of the parties for the federal election have done, will only be shown on this late Sunday evening.

One thing is currently becoming apparent, at the beginning of August.
Even with a not unlikely election result for the CDU and CSU, it could be a clouded victory for the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet.
The surveys in midsummer all point to this.

First example: A survey published on August 3rd that the polling institute Forsa carried out on behalf of

The question was, for whom the respondents would vote if the Chancellor could be directly elected.
Which is not the case.
21 percent of those surveyed opted for the social democrat Scholz - an increase of three percentage points compared to the previous week.
18 percent voted for Baerbock (-1), Union politician Laschet, on the other hand, was only third in the survey with 15 percent - and even lost two percentage points.
Even more: not even half of the CDU supporters would vote for the 60-year-old Rhinelander directly (46 percent).

voters about the 20 most popular politicians in Germany.
The first five places were as follows:
1. Angela Merkel (CDU, 58.4 points)
2. Markus Söder (CSU, 51.9)
3. Sahra Wagenknecht (Die Linke) and Olaf Scholz (SPD, each 47.6)
5.Winfried Kretschmann (The Greens, 47.3)

NRW Landeschef Laschet only landed in 16th place in this ranking, one place behind Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock, who is just having to deal with another scandal about Tübingen Mayor Boris Palmer.

Third example: The CDU's third defeat in the survey within a few days.
The opinion research institute Civey also determined for the news magazine

how many votes a candidate for chancellor would unite in a direct election.
Only 17 percent voted for Laschet, which is the lowest figure since May.
18 percent would be for Baerbock and a full 25 percent for SPD politician Scholz.

Since the parliamentary groups of the parties will be elected to parliament in the 2021 federal election, things are still (somewhat) looking good for the sister parties CDU and CSU.
According to INSA's opinion trend, the Union received 27.5 percent of the vote at the beginning of August.
Followed by the Greens and the SPD with 18 percent each.
A glorious and sovereign election victory for Laschet is unlikely to be expected.
